
Sabit Mukanov was the classic of Kazakh literature, poet, public figure, academician and the chairman of Kazakhstan’s Union of Writers. He was awarded with two Orders of Lenin and two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of “Badge of Honor”, medals and honorary diploma of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR. The novels like “Botagoz”, “Syrdarya” and autobiographical trilogy “School of life” were written by him. He was prominent organizer of literary affairs in the country. He researched the history and theory of literature of and literary processes, particularly the issues of formation and development of various genres in Kazakh literature, aesthetics and cultural heritage of theater, music and increasing literary skills. He studied the Kazakh literature of 18th and beginning of 20th centuries, works of Kazakh writers and poets such as S.Seyfullin, M. Auezov, T. Zharokov, A. Tazhibayeva and folk akyns of the country. He also studied works of A. Pushkin, M. Gorky and V. Mayakovsky. S. Mukanoc investigated the scientific and literary heritage of Sh. Ualihanov and Abay. He had the first systematic exposition of the life and work of the great Kazakh poet Jambyl Jabayev. In 1974 was published the posthumous publication of his ethnographic work “National Heritage”, which includes researches of the ancient folk traditions Shezhire, economy and life of prerevolutionary Kazakhs, their material and spiritual culture. His books have been translated into many languages.
