Baku, Azerbaijan, 11 September 2024 - The third Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission meeting, organized by the International Turkic Academy and the Turkic Language Institute on 9-11 September 2024, successfully completed its work.

This important event was attended by members of the Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission established by the Organization of Turkic States. The main objective of the meeting was to finalize the work on the project for a common alphabet for Turkic languages, leveraging the knowledge gained in this field and the two years of experience from the Commission’s activities.

During the meeting, the Latin-based Common Turkic Alphabet project, first proposed by scientists in 1991, was thoroughly reviewed. The Commission engaged in detailed discussions and identified aspects that need improvements in this alphabet project.

As a result of this dedicated work, a proposal for a Common Turkic Alphabet consisting of 34 letters was agreed upon. Each letter in the proposed alphabet represents different phonetic sounds found in Turkic languages.

The successful conclusion of this meeting is of historic importance. The development of the Common Turkic Alphabet promotes mutual understanding and cooperation among the Turkic peoples while preserving their linguistic heritage.

The International Turkic Academy and Turkish Language Association express their gratitude to the Turkic states’ governments and the Commission members for their invaluable contributions during this process.

All relevant institutions are invited to effectively support the implementation of the proposed Common Turkic Alphabet.
